Grand Opening of Amityville Farmer’s Market

Under a clear, sunny sky, the Amityville Farmer’s Market had the official “Grand Opening” Ribbon Cuttingon Saturday, July 13.   This year, the Market is being held on Saturday mornings from 9 A.M. – 1 P.M.

On hand were Mayor Jim Wandell, as well as trustees Jessica Bernius, Kevin Smith and Nick LaLota.  Many members of the Bay Village Civic Association joined them and BVCA president Joan Donnison in the ribbon cutting ceremony.  Prior to the photo op, NY State Assemblyman Bob Sweeney joined them at their booth.  He had to leave early, but stopped by to wish them well and shop!

Shoppers were pleased to see Thera Farms, Horman’s Pickles, Laurie’s Granola, Chef Deb’s Gluten Free Cookies , and Bambino’s Ravioli return.  A new farm from Mattituck joined them, along with a vendor with honey, preserves and other specialty items.   They were also excited at the possibilities of the new commercial kitchen in the Village…the Kitchen Co-op.  That table sold various kinds of bread, most with chocolate.  More vendors are expected throughout the season.  The Market should run through October.

Raffle tickets were sold for a large basket valued at $100.  The proceeds were being donated to the victim of a recent house fire in the Village.  Due to the sudden downpour at the end of the event, the raffle was postponed to the following Saturday.  The winning ticket was drawn by BVCA member, Richard Anderson, as president, Joan Donnison  looked on.   Ginny DeLauro was the lucky winner.
