BVCA Adds Landscaping at Amityville High School

The weather was supposed to cooperate but the skies opened for a brief downpour.  The Bay Village Civic Association had purchased plants and sought volunteers to assist in placing them at the front of Amityville Memorial High  School.  Member s of the National Honor Society and Key Club had offered to come out on Saturday, May 5.  They joined members of th e school district’s Plant and Grounds staff headed by Ed Mercurio.   BVCA President Joan Donnison, and co-chairs of its Enhancement Committee Jackie Aissa and Julie MacLean were ready to see their  plan materialize.

Luckily, the rain ended and the project was implemented.   Roses and other perennials were planted alongside the main entrance.  The  front courtyard area was weeded and raked.  New plants were added.

A new electronic sign had recently been installed near Merrick Road.  This was courtesy of the AMHS alumni from the class of 1960.  The BVCA purchased and planted red and white annuals (the school’s colors) in the bed surrounding the sign.  Perennials and more plants will be added in the future.

After several hours, the results were apparent.  Everyone was pleased….especially when the pizzas donated by “Bellissimo’s” arrived.  Thanks also go to Home Depot for their donation towards this project.

We sincerely appreciate the cooperation of principal Scott Andrews and V.P. Pete Hutchison as well as advisors Jodi Roisman and Christine Kilfoil.

As you walk or drive by, please take a closer look.  Hopefully, it will inspire the students while adding to the charm of the Village.
