Department Chiefs Special Guest Speakers at BVCA Membership Meetings

At recent meetings of the Bay Village Civic Association, special guest speakers addressed the members about their departments.
Representing the Amityville Fire Department was 1st Assistant Chief Charlie Scudlo.  Chief Scudlo explained the qualifications and training of members of the Department.  In addition, he advised the BVCA members on fire safety measures.  Questions were answered about rescue training and EMT services, too.

In November, Amityville Police Chief Don Dobby made a presentation about his Department.  The Chief explained the extensive training that each member of the force has.  The history of the APD and the roles of officers were defined.  Some recent events in the community were discussed.  Particularly during the holidays, residents were reminded to lock doors and keep valuable items out of view.  Chief Dobby requested that we call the Department if we think we see anything suspicious.

Future meetings will address homeowners’ insurance issues and other relevant Village of Amityville community matters.  For more information, email bayvillagecivic@aol.com.

Amityville Farmers’ Market Expanded

Additional vendors have recently joined the Amityville Farmers’ Market.  Blue Duck Bakery of Southampton and Southold features fantastic pies and breads.  If you have not tasted these baked goods, you’ve missed some delicious treats.   It joins a gluten free baker, A Little Taste of Heaven, also offering many wonderful products from Chef Deb.

Thera Farms has returned to Amityville with its heirloom tomatoes, fig trees, plants and other produce.  This farm is joined by Goodale Farms, a dairy farm from Aquebogue, offering eggs, cheese, and other products.  These organic free range eggs are special.  They must be tried to taste the difference!

Some organic garlic and produce is already available courtesy of a certified organic farm.  More produce will be available as the harvest peaks.  An additional organic farm will be represented for the remainder of the season.  There will be a variety of tempting fresh fruits and vegetables from which to choose.  Organic fresh produce is certainly a healthy option.  We are fortunate to have it locally available.

Many other vendors make up this delightful Market.  Handmade soaps, Italian pastries, cookies, dog treats and other items are being offered.  Don’t miss original vendors Horman’s Pickles and Bambino’s for fresh pasta and mozzarella.

Remember that the Market is located at the 9/11 Memorial Parking Lot on the east side of Route 110, south of the train trestle.  Additional parking is also available at Walgreen’s. The Farmers’ Market operates every Friday afternoon from 2 P.M. until 7 P.M. and will continue through September.
Live music is also provided by Denise Romas in July and various artists throughout the season.  Come by and enjoy!

Spring Clean-Up Event April 30 Sponsored by the Bay Village Civic Association

On Saturday, April 30, a shredder truck was parked in the 9/11 Memorial Parking lot on Broadway.  From noon – 3 P.M., the public brought three bags or cardboard file boxes of paperwork to be shredded.  This was done for a $10 donation to the Bay Village Civic Association.

This was a wonderful opportunity to clean out those personal documents residents had been saving.  Identity theft continues to be a problem and this was a deterrent.
How fitting that Earth Day and Arbor Day were also celebrated in April.  We reduced landfill and saved a tree, while protecting your identity.

We gratefully acknowledge Quality Shredding for donating their services.  More details about them can be found at www.QualityShredding.com.  It is hoped that we can continue this event annually.
